Three faculty researchers from the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional โ€œVeteranโ€ Yogyakarta (UPNVY) in Indonesia paid an official visit to Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, SUC President IV of the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) on 6 August to initiate partnership collaboration mainly focused on research and development.

Said UPNVY faculty researchers consist of Prof. Antik Suprihanti, Prof. Rika Ernawati, and Prof. Andreas Mahendro Kuncoro expressed their purpose to expand their academic horizons and exchange insights with TAU in the best interest for research collaboration through this benchmarking visit which included signing the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the UPNVY and TAU.

They visited the Research and Development (R&D) office and three (3) colleges of the TAU namely, College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF), College of Business and Management (CBM), and the College of Engineering and Technology (CET).

Accompanied by Dr. Jerome Duque Soriano, Director of the Quality Assurance (QA) Office, the visitors also had a dialogue with with Dr. Sinamar Estudillo, CAF College Dean, to share TAUโ€™s best agricultural practices and promotion of its flagship projects such as the free range chicken production and engineered bamboo products which has become significant in the provinceโ€™ market industry.

Prior to research collaboration, the visitors met Dr. Mariel Caguioa, Director of Research and Development (R&D) who discussed TAU's integration of biotechnologies to provide quality products and the establishment of the SMART Agriculture Center and the engineered bamboo facility. They also promised to network holistic research to meet the needs of the community through conduct of training, promotion, and commercialization.

Onto their third spot, Dr. Erlie SD. Totaan, CBM College Dean, discussed CBM program offerings like the Tourism Management, Entrepreneurship, Accountancy, and Business Administration majors which caught the visitorsโ€™ interest to link their initiative under the marketing management.

Dr. Ruben A. Parazo, CET College Dean, expressed that research projects in the college are primarily focused on incorporating microprocessors such as Arduino Uno and Raspberry Pi, sensor devices and machinery to agriculture-related capstone projects that are relevant for sustainability and future agri-innovation.

Dr. Soriano and Ms. Caroline N. Gabis, Chief of Partnership Development of the Office of External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA) accompanied the Indonesian visitors in exploring the Tarlac Province from the Diwa ng Tarlac Museum to the Local Government Units (LGU) of La Paz, Pura, and Moncada.

They also visited the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Tarlac as well as the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Before heading back to their home country, they also had a leisure time at the Mall of Asia in Pasay.
