After a five-year hiatus due to pandemic-related mobility restrictions, the National SCUAA Games are back this time with State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Region III hosting the event as Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) and Tarlac State University (TSU) house approximately 5,000 athletes, coaches, and officials from 16 regions (unified Regions IVA and IVB).ย

Slated to open on 1 October at New Clark City (NCC) Stadium in Capas, Tarlac, the six-day event features 14 individual and group events such as athletics, badminton, chess, lawn tennis, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, futsal, football, swimming, sepak takraw, and Mr. and Ms. National SCUAA Games. The competitions will be held at NCC, TAU, TSU, Tarlac Recreational Park, Diwa ng Tarlac Convention Center, Camiling Sports Complex, Santa Ignacia Auditorium, Tarlac City Evacuation Center, and Malacampa Basketball Court.

Dr. Max P. Guillermo, TAU President, expressed his warm wishes to the delegates as they began arriving on campus. โ€œWe may be a small university, but our hearts are big enough to welcome all the members of the SUC family,โ€ Dr. Guillermo expressed.

โ€œI am also very thankful to my fellow government workers from Region III Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the Province of Tarlac and all local government units, TSU, and TAU for the hard work they put into ensuring that we can measure up to the expectations of our guests,โ€ Dr. Guillermo added in recognition of the efforts of SUCs and their partners.

The 2020 edition of the countrywide sports fest was initially planned to be showcased at Bicol University but was canceled by the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) due to the country's first suspected case of COVID-19 in January 2020. The University of Antique organized the last SUC tournament in 2018, with the National Capital Region (NCR) leading the gold medal haul while Central Luzon secured the overall second place.
