Another history unraveled at Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU).
Such is how TAU stakeholders regarded the return of National SCUAA (State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association) Games after it was disrupted by the pandemic for five years. Said country-wide SUC sporting event was hosted by Central Luzon on 1-6 October with TAU in the lead.
Dr. Max P. Guillermo, TAU President, said his leadership โenvisions TAU to be the home of future Olympians.โ However, Dr. Guillermo also shared that the university has to open its doors to national and even international sports tournaments in order to realize this. โAthletes and their coaches need to be exposed to the world's best,โ Dr. Guillermo noted while discussing how such initiatives could be worth exploring in the universityโs long-term internationalization efforts.
Meanwhile, Central Luzonโs record of 31 gold, 29 silver, and 40 bronze emerged as runner-up to the National Capital Regionโs (NCR) impressive medal count of 99 gold, 45 silver, and 14 bronze.
Professor Lorena P. Bermillo, Director of Sports Development, congratulated all athletes for making it to the national finals. โYour participation is already a remarkable honor. Getting the gold is just a bonus,โ Prof. Bermillo stated as she verbalized her wish that SCUAA would produce the next generation of Manny Pacquiao, Hidilyn Diaz, and EJ Obiena.
Contributing significantly to Region IIIโs medal haul was Merry Joy I. Trupa who baggedย three gold medals in 3,000m, 5,000m, and 10,000m runs. Fellow sprinter, Kristel Joy Natividad, also clinched the first prize in 100m hurdles while Dolores Pascua secured the bronze medal in 400m dash. Crowd-favorite Neah Jose also nailed the championship in badminton.
Recognizing the honor brought by TAU athletes, Dr. Danilo N. Oficiar, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, stressed how vital supporting students is to encouraging them to pursue a career in sports. โMay they inspire their fellow students to dream and work hard to achieve their goals whether in sports or academics," Dr. Oficiar conveyed.
Furthermore, Ms. Yolanda F. Juan, OIC Vice President for Finance and Administration, expressed her gratitude to TAUโs partners. "We are very happy that all went by smoothly. Our guests' safety and well-being remain our paramount concern. For this, we want to thank the Provincial Government of Tarlac (PGT), local government units, military, police force, Bureau of Fire Protection, provincial and municipal risk reduction and management offices, Department of Health, and the civil society,โ Ms. Juan replied via Messenger.ย She added that the cooperation and contribution of the members of the TAU community were instrumental in ensuring the peaceful and efficient conduct of the activity.
Earlier this year, TAU,ย with the unfailing support of PGT, also organized the SUC III Olympics and Association of State Colleges and Universities - Solid North (ASCU-SN) Midyear Fest which drew in thousands of delegates and spectators from Central and Northern Luzon provinces.
