๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ | TAU joins 2024 National Innovation Day celebration
In support of the Memorandum Circular 44, titled โConduct of Programs and Activities for the Celebration of the 2024 National Innovations Day,โ released by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) conducted a one-day event at the TAU Student and Alumni Center - Amphitheatre on 22 April.
The event aimed to foster an innovative culture and mindset among stakeholders through various activities, including hackathons, design thinking workshops, project pitching, innovation challenges, and gamified workshops.
Under the theme "Unboxing the Filipinovation Mindset," the Planning and Development Office (PDO), headed by its Director, Dr. Arnold R. Lorenzo, in collaboration with faculty members and students of the degree program Bachelor of Information Technology (BSIT) from the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), together with the officers and members of the Student Society on Information Technology Educators (SSITE), took the lead in organizing a Hackathon competition at the TAU-Agri Tourism Function Hall.ย
Coinciding with this event was a seminar held at the Amphitheatre Room, where Mr. Edwin G. Mendoza, Provincial Head of DICT Tarlac, delivered a keynote address and introduced speakers from different sectors who imparted their knowledge and expertise on innovation. ย Attended by students from CET and College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF), topics discussed in the seminar included "Unboxing InnoTech 1: Blockchain in Education" by Mr. Arlone "Coach Miranda Miner" Abello, CEO of Global Miranda Miner Group; "Unboxing InnoTech 2: Synetcom Total Integrated Cyber Security Solutions for Smart Campus-Internet of Things [IoT]" by Mr. Eugene Eusores, Technical Expert from SynetCom Philippines; "Unboxing InnoTech 3: Huawei Smart Classroom" by Ms. Ruby Ann Reyes, Senior Account Manager at AG DataCom Philippine.ย Lectures onย "Unboxing InnoTech 4: Smart Agriculture, IoT, Smart 5, and SD WAN." was also delivered by Mr. Jesus "Nonoy" Ativo, a Technical Expert at PLDT Inc.
Meanwhile, after careful deliberation and evaluation of the judges in the Hackathon outputs, Team POGI, led by Kristina Anthony Quines and Rolando Goloya, emerged as the champion. Team THUNDER secured the first runner-up spot, while Team BROs claimed second runner-up. Special recognition was given to two more groups, HACKAMOLE and DRAGONFLY, who each received consolation prizes for their innovative outputs. DRAGONFLY also received a Special Award sponsored by Mr. Ver Prambita. All teams that vied for best application that support the implementation of agriculture through the identification of multiple categories of plant species received tokens from Synetcom Philippines, Inc., fostering a spirit of innovation and collaboration.ย
