TAU-GAD kicks off activities for women’s month
The GAD office commenced its initiatives to educate more women and men and give inspiration for them to move forward and survive their respective challenges and difficulties during and even before the new normal. One of its initiatives was to review the GAD agenda of the university. With the theme “TAU GAD in Review: Hearing Your Voices Towards Development,” Dr. Marianne P. Villaruel, the director of GAD Office, spearheaded a focus group discussion with some faculty members and staff of the university to review and recalibrate the GAD agenda which must be leaning towards economic emancipation and empowerment of women in the margins. To further support such efforts, Dr. Villaruel also facilitated a conference meeting to encourage more TAU faculty-researchers and extensionists to present their projects and programs that would help TAU become gender sensitive and gender inclusive institution.
To liberate women and men from their stereotypical gender roles, GAD has lined-up webinars that underscored the significant participation of women and men in strengthening the community’s media literacy, fighting against cybercrime, and emancipating them through financial literacy. The first webinar, a collaboration of GAD and the TAU Multipurpose Cooperative was streamed live last 18 March. Speakers of the webinar were Chief Administrative Officer for Finance, Mr. Dante A. Revamonte, Instructor from College of Education, Mr. James Philip A. Ibarra, and a Celebrite Certified Operation and Celebrite Certified Physical Analyst, PCpl. Marius Vener S. Aporo.
GAD also launched virtual activities such as spoken word poetry, poster-making, music video, photography, slogan-making, and gender sensitivity training for TAU students who have been actively participating in cultivating an inclusive environment within the campus. Also, GAD has been an active partner of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW); thus, the former actively engaged in the Serbisyo Para Kay Juan/Juana, Musika ng Kababaihan, Agenda ni Juana Edition, Pulso Para sa Kababaihan and other PCW-organized activities for the month-long celebration for women.
