TAU-DRD Holds Training-workshop for TAU Faculty, Researchers on Writing “Acceptable” Research Papers for Refereed Journals

The Tarlac Agricultural University - Department of Research and Development (TAU-DRD) in collaboration with the Philippine Journal of Arts, Sciences, and Technology (PJAST) and The Journal of Environmental Science and Management (JESMA) launches a training workshop on Writing Research Paper Acceptable for to Referee Journals last February 20-21, 2023 attended by the seasoned faculty and researchers of the academe at the Farmers Training Center.

The event aimed to enable TAU faculty researchers how to write a publishable research article from the terminal reports of their projects/studies worthy of publication in refereed journals.

The WRITESHOP Writing Publishable Research Paper Acceptable to Refereed Journals was attended by 27 participants from various colleges and departments of the university including 12 male and 15 female faculty researchers.

Dr. Maria Elena T. Caguioa, DRD Director and PJAST Editor-in-Chief, welcomed the participants followed by the inspirational message of Dr. Ms. Asuncion G. Beltran, TAU Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training. University of Los Baños (UPLB) Research Associate II, Ms. Catherine B. Gigantone, on the other hand, explained the objectives of the said event.

Lecture presentations and discussions were given by notable resource persons namely: Dr. Thaddeus P. Lawas, University Extension Specialist II of UPLB discussed the topic of Writing Technical Articles for Scientific Journals; Ms. Cherry S. Padilla, University Researcher I - UPLB, tackled Planning Your Article: Writing the Article Outline and Introduction and Introduced The Journal of Environmental Science and Management (JESAM); Dr. Alma Lorelei D. Abejero, University Researcher I - UPLB, lectured on Writing Materials and Methods: Tools for Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis and Writing the Results and Discussion: Quantitative and Qualitative Data; Ms. Catherine B. Gigamonte conversed about Where to Publish?; Ms. Rosemarie Laila D. Areglo, University Research Associate II - UPLB, emphasized The Role of Journals and the Importance of the Peer Review Process.

The second day of the activity started with the lecture presentation of Dr. Loucel E. Cui, UPLB Assistant Professor IV on Conclusion, Recommendations, and Abstract and Publication Ethics; and lastly, Dr. Lawas spoke about the Practical Guide to Getting Published in Journals.

Following all of the lecture sessions, the participants had an hour and a half for the workshop proper, which was facilitated by the resource speakers. This was followed by the presentation of participant outputs and a critique of the participating lecturers.

The event concluded with the awarding of certificates to all participants and keynote lecturers. Mr. Eric Lindbergh C. Inovejas, TAU Assistant Director for Research and Development, delivered the closing remarks.

The TAU-DRD WRITESHOP Writing Publishable Research Paper Acceptable to Refereed Journals is one of the many activities underway that aim to increase the faculty’s research productivity and enhance the University’s research capability. (n.mallari/pjast)
