Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, President of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) and Mr. Abner P. Maรฑebog Jr., Technical Staff for International Mobility of TAUโ€™s External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA) joined fellow University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) members from Philippine Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) held on February 26, 2025 at the CHED Auditorium, UP Campus Diliman, Quezon City.

The annual conference aimed to bring together academic leaders and international relations officers for an opportunity to exhibit various PHEIsโ€™ accomplishments in the academe, particularly in internationalization (IZN) efforts, curricular offerings and strategies for providing high-quality education in the country.

Steering the conference was Dr. Laurene Chua-Garcia, President of UMAP-Philippines, who officially welcomed attendees and expressed her warmest appreciation for their participation in this pivotal event.

The plenary session featured a series of talk and discussion starting with Dr. Heracleo D. Legrada, member of UMAP-Philippines, who recalled UMAPโ€™s journey over the years. Dr. Christine N. Ferrer, Director IV of the Commission on Higher Education - Regional Office 1 (CHED-RO1), further enriched the discussion with her presentation titled โ€œRegional Approach to Internationalization: Making Every Institution Count.โ€ Additionally, Dr. Garcia addressed the challenges encountered in IZN and identified the necessary support for PHEIs to rise in the international arena.

During the General Assembly, representatives from various PHEIs voted for a new board of officers for the said UMAP Council. Hence, Dr. Salunson participated in the electoral process and the newly elected board of officers was introduced afterward.

Adjourning the conference was Atty. Lily Freida M. Milla, CESO III, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of Deputy Executive Director III, International Affairs Staff of CHED who also thanked all the key representatives of HEIs for participating in the event. Meanwhile, she expressed her anticipation to new leadership opportunities for the newly elected officers as well as admiration to the outgoing officers for leading the organization to success and limelight.
