ππππππππππ | After hauling historic 98 medals, TAU ranks 6th in SUC III Olympics
As a university in the countryside with only about 7,000 students, Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) is one of the smallest state universities in terms of population, not only in the region but also in the entire Philippines. However, this reality did not dampen the spirit of TAU athletes, coaches, and administrators. Instead, they used it as a motivation to excel during the SUC III Olympics. Fortunately, the University is not short of talented and hardworking athletes who helped in seizing 26 gold medals, 40 silver medals, and 32 bronze medals.Β
Considered as another breakthrough, TAUβs performance in the regional medal tables is proof of the longstanding commitment of TAU President Dr. Max P .Guillermo to youth sports development, extending beyond athletic competitions to health and wellness.
Leading the medal contribution is the athletics team, which supplied 13 golds, 28 silvers, and 12 bronzes. This enabled the TAU team to finish in second place behind the formidable Bulacan State University (BulSU) athletics team. Mr. Jan Kevin H. Binuya, athletics coach, thanked Dr. Guillermo, Sports Director Prof. Lorena P. Bermillo, and the TAU management for the support. βDonβt talk, just act. Donβt say, just show. Donβt promise, just prove it,β Mr. Binuya advised TAUian athletes in a Facebook post.Β
The archery team also performed admirably, earning 9 golds, 6 silvers, and 2 bronzes. Leading the archers was Alyssa R. Felipe, who claimed five golds, two silvers, and two bronzes. Ms. Mary Rose O. Bantog, archery coach, is still in cloud nine as TAU ended up as the second-best performing SUC in archery, trailing only to Central Luzon State University (CLSU). βSobrang proud po ako sa performance na pinakita nila (archers). Thankful rin po ako kay Sir Von dahil naroon siya para i-guide ang mga bata,β Ms. Bantog told the Information Unit.Β
Key to the successful conduct of this yearβs meet was the synergy of TAU Sports Development Office, tournament officials, Incident Management Team (IMT), emergency responders, workers from the General Services Office, Business and Auxiliary Services, Motorpool Unit, and StarMaxx, cadets from ROTC Unit, Golden Harvest correspondents, and volunteers from several University partners.Β Β
βWeβre the favorite among SUCs because of our good sports facilities,β Dr. Guillermo, who is also serving as IMTβs Responsible Officer, said in the closing meeting with the IMT members, as he expressed his gratitude for all the efforts of TAU employees and representatives from the Local Government Units (LGUs), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Provincial and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices, Rural Health Unit, Philippine Red Cross, and the Tarlac Filipino-Chinese Volunteers Fire Brigade.
Last year, TAU posted 97 medals but with a higher number of gold medals, totaling 30. After hosting the SUC III Olympics for two consecutive years, TAU finally passed the baton to Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU), which is set to stage the 2025 edition.
