Demonstrating its longstanding tradition of excellence in campus journalism, The Tillers, the official student publication of Tarlac Agricultural University - Laboratory School (TAU-LS), claimed multiple awards at the 2025 Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).
Β
The Tillers delivered a stellar performance, finishing as the Overall 2nd runner-up in the Secondary category, solidifying its reputation as one of the top performing student publications in the province. The competition held at Tarlac National High School (TNHS) unfolded in two phases: the semifinals on 5-6 February and the final round on 12-14 February.
Β
Several student journalists from The Tillers stood out in their respective categories, earning Top 3 finishes and advancing to the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC). Antoinne Martina Carbonel claimed 1st Place in Editorial Cartooning (English), while Kryszannah Jerusha Cabatic took home 1st Place in Copyediting and Proofreading (Filipino). Marco Graciano Nucum also secured 1st Place in Science and Technology Writing (English).

In the School Paper category, The Tillers also made its mark, ranking 9th Overall in the Secondary English division. Their exceptional newspaper content and layout earned them recognition in several sections, including 5th Place for Best Feature Page, 6th Place for Best Editorial Page, 7th Place for Best SciTech Page, and 8th Place for Best News Page.
Β
TAU-LS Principal Dr. Milani C. Petero conveyed her pride and confidence for The Tillers, noting that despite it being their first time joining the school paper, they had achieved something truly remarkable.
Β
β€œWe honestly did not expect to secure the second runner-up position overall, especially since we had no entries in the group category and our success was purely based on individual entries. What’s even more impressive is that all 12 of our finalists, whom we fondly call the "Magic 12," secured spots in the Top 10. This is a testament to their hard work, talent, and commitment,” Dr. Petero said.
Β
Dr. Petero also extended her gratitude to the dedicated trainers and coaches: Mr. William G. Gabriel, Ms. Mary Elaine P. Bumaclay, Ms. Raven May E. Castillo, and Mr. Jayvee C. Macaraig, for their guidance and support.
