A total of 239 student-athletes will represent Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) at the State Colleges and Universities Athletics Association (SCUAA) Regional Games at Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU) in Magalang, Pampanga from 24-28 February. They will join the 4,104-strong SUC III ย delegation, which includes 307 from TAU.
ย
Aside from the participation of 13 state universities and colleges (SUCs), this yearโ€™s edition of the intercollegiate tournament marks the inclusion of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Bataan Campus.

According to Dr. Emerson B. Cuzzamu, Director of the Sports Development Office (SDO), the preparations for this regional sports meet included long-term physical and psychological conditioning, an intensive two-week training camp, participation in tune-up games, and competitive engagements in archery, racquet sports, and ball games.

โ€œTo all TAU athletes, we have started a new chapter in sports development. We must reinvent TAU's sports programs to make you more competitive, not only for SCUAA but also for other sporting events the University may lead us to participate in,โ€ Dr. Cuzzamu told the Information Unit.

Dr. Cuzzamu encouraged TAU athletes to consider the achievements of larger universities not with intimidation but as a source of inspiration. He urged them to draw motivation from these victories ย to become more resilient and focused, emphasizing the shared goal of establishing TAU as one of the leading state universities in the region.
ย
Reminding everyone to take pride in TAUโ€™s current accomplishments and to approach competitions with respect for fellow athletes, Dr. Cuzzamu advised TAUians to honor their opponents and celebrate their efforts, as these are the truest expressions of sportsmanship and a reflection of TAUโ€™s values.

Meanwhile, athletics head coach Mr. Jan Kevin H. Binuya shared that the TAU team now feels the pressure as the games approach. โ€œThe addition of the PUP team makes the competition more challenging,โ€ Mr. Binuya commented, adding that though they feel they are the underdogs, โ€œweโ€™re the underdogs that bite,โ€ he quipped.

Last year, the TAU athletics team secured second place, trailing behind the perennial top contender, Bulacan State University (BulSU), with an impressive haul of 13 gold, 28 silver, and 12 bronze medals.

TAU hosted the return of the SUC III Olympics for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024) after the pandemic, as well as the SCUAA National Games with Region III SUCs in 2023. TAU also finished as fifth runner-up in 2024 by seizing 98 medals.
