In response to the call for collective action to battle the growing problems concerning water scarcity driven by the effects of climate change, population growth, and urbanization, Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) seals partnership with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) - Tarlac Irrigation Management Office (IMO) through a ceremonial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing held at the Office of the President (OP) Conference Room, 19 March.
The said ceremonial MOU signing was attended by Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, TAU President; Mr. Rodenio T. Sotero, Federation President of Irrigators Association (IA); Engr. Alvin Roberto A. David, NIA - Tarlac IMO Manager; Dr. Ruben A. Parazo, Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology and Tarlac IMO section chiefs.
Highlighted in this partnership event are the services and contributions that TAU will be providing to NIA - Tarlac IMO from provision of educational support and agricultural training workshops to the farmers of Samahan ng Magsasaka ng North Tarlac Council Federation (SMNTCF) Inc. up to the rendering of services needed by the NIA - Tarlac IMO employees.
Moreover, TAU will be generously equipping the federation with technical expertise focused on water-efficient irrigation techniques such as Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), Dry Seeded Rice (DSR) farming, and High-Value Crop Production.
During the event, Dr. Salunson urged the concerned colleges and personnel to become agents of change in helping NIA and the farmers in Tarlac in developing their livelihoods. โThis partnership with NIA allows us to extend our academic and scientific resources and address critical challenges in irrigation and water.โ he also said.
On the other hand, Engr. David expressed his immense gratitude to TAU officials and experts for their initiative in extending all the needed services and support to NIA. โWith all the knowledge in AWD and all the knowledge that you can impart to us, we are very appreciative to all of you.โ he added.
With this renewed and continuous collaboration between TAU and NIA, the vision of providing reliable irrigation services to the farmers of Tarlac will be ensured through the help of research and technology.
