Administrative staff, faculty members and non-teaching personnel of the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) gathered at the University's Gilberto O. Teodoro Multipurpose Center, 13 September, for the launching of a three-day Sportfest 2024, marking the beginning of a series of events celebrating this year’s 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary.
Β
Anchored on the theme "Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes," the 2024 Philippine Civil Service Anniversary celebration aims to highlight the importance of agility and readiness in public service while fostering camaraderie and promoting physical fitness among TAU employees.
Β
The kick-off program commenced with an opening prayer and the national anthem. Dr. Arnold R. Lorenzo, Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA), then delivered the welcome remarks, setting a positive tone for the event. This was followed by an inspirational message from Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, the University President, who emphasized the role of sports in building teamwork and resilience among public servants.
Β
Dr. Sonny DC. Torres, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (VP-ASA), acknowledged the participating teams and their leaders, highlighting the spirit of unity and competition. The official declaration of the opening of the 2024 TAU Sports Festival was made by Dr. Emerson B. Cuzzamu, Director of Sports and Development.
Β
The participants then recited the Oath of Sportsmanship, led by Dr. Angelo P. Guillermo, Assistant Director of Sports and Development, underscoring the values of fairness and respect that are central to the event.
Β
The Sportsfest featured non-competitive Zumba showdown, yell competition, and tug-of-war, all involving enthusiastic participation from various teams. These activities are designed not only to entertain but also to promote physical fitness and team spirit among the university faculty and staff.

The Sportsfest 2024, which will resume on September 20 and 27, is a testament to TAU's commitment to nurturing future-ready servant-heroes, aligning with the broader goals of the Philippine Civil Service of developing physically-active and socially-engaged public servants ready to face the challenges of the next decade.
