The significance of building up the global reputation of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) has been attained by conducting a comprehensive training workshop titled "Optimizing Global Reputation: An Orientation and Training Workshop on International Rankings", 13 September at the Function Hall of University Hostel.

Led by the External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA) Office, the workshop aimed to equip the participants with fundamental knowledge on matters concerning international academic rankings.

A series of presentations were delivered by esteemed resource speakers such as Dr. Benny S. Soliman, ELIA Director with his topic on the Philippine Higher Education Internationalization Framework, focusing on how internationalization becomes a critical factor to improve academic standing. Mr. Jerome L. Duque, Information Officer III from the Information Unit lectured on THE Impact Rankings, the QS Stars, and the UI Green Metric, that served as an overview on how such rankings measure and compare universities around the globe and how metrics play a role in building a solid academic profile. Dr. Sheila R. Lingaya, ELIA Assistant Director, talked about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on relevance for universities in attaining international recognition.

TAU ELIA also invited Dr. Mee Jay Domingo from Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) who spoke about "Methodology of THE Impact Rankings." As the Director for Internationalization, Linkages, and Partnerships at MMSU, Dr. Domingo shared extensive knowledge on the topic regarding sources of data gathering methods and best practices to be ranked favorably for such global assessments. His expertise gave participants, composed mostly of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Coordinators from TAU, a clearer understanding of the ranking methodologies.

During his welcome address, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC Salunson, TAU President, emphasized the importance of sustainability in the university's mission, stating that β€œTAU’s dedication to sustainable development is the cornerstone of our pursuit of excellence. Sustainability is becoming a requirement rather than a choice.”

β€œBeing an agricultural institution, TAU is in a unique position to spearhead initiatives to safeguard our natural resources, mitigate the effects of climate change, and advance food security,” he added.
