CHRONICLES | TAU drives sustainability, eco-efficiency with solid waste management training

As global waste generation surges, the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), under the initiative of its administration headed by Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, rolled out a one-day interactive learning session titled “Enhancing Efficiency and Sustainability in Environmental Solid Waste Management (ESWM)” for University’s stakeholders and TAU-ESWM coordinators in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) at the Continuing Education Center (CEC), 3 April.

Said activity equipped the participants with new and traditional know-how from DENR-CENRO officials and experts who presented and clarified issued pertaining to best practices in waste management including proper waste segregation, Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) laws, and permits for tree-cutting and transport

Engr. Paul Christian A. Santos, General Services Officer, together with Engr. Jesus A. Tolentino, Assistant Director of the General Services Office (GSO), stated that the seminar’s newly introduced strategies will be applied immediately through a University clean-up initiative on 4 April.

Meanwhile, Engr. Benjie M. Dela Vega, Director of GSO, underscored the initiative’s broader vision:

“Sustainability is a collective responsibility. This seminar and cleanup drive mark the first step in TAU’s long-term plan to embed eco-efficiency into every facet of campus operations—and inspire our community to lead by example.”

To further the University’s commitment, TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson also stated his plans to scale up waste reduction by starting to eliminate the use of plastic bottles and expand TAU’s sustainability programs, including seminars and partnerships with the local government offices.
