Blending heritage and modernity, the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) spearheaded by the Sociocultural and Development Office (SDO) led by its Director, Ms. Cecile L. Lapitan, elevated traditional art forms and activities through the Festival of Talents 2025 with the theme โHakbang ng Kultura: Isang Paglalakbay Dala ang Sining at Kultura sa Makabagong Panahonโ held in various areas of the University on 25 April and 2 May.
Through this cultural convergence, the SDO office showcased diverse perspectives and creative prowess of TAU students in various contests and sought to identify future cultural ambassadors who can represent the University in both local and global stages.ย
This yearโs competition gathered students from the Universityโs six colleges including the Laboratory School (LS). Three representatives per department competed in Visual Arts, Literary Arts, and Musical Arts while 26 young ladies and men vied for the title of Mister and Miss TAU 2025.
In the overall tally, the College of Education (CEd) captured the championship title with 73 points. Close behind, College of Arts and Science (CAS) secured the second place with 62 points and higher counts of bronze making College of Engineering and Technology (CET) with an identical medal count settle for third.
In visual arts, the contenders proved their mastery across five categories: Charcoal Rendering, Pencil Drawing, Poster Making, Photography, and Painting. Mr. Ariel Dave Campaรฑero from CEd claimed victory in Charcoal Painting for his art which featured striking contrasts and textures while Mr. Mark Joshua Rivera from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) claimed the first spot in Pencil drawing with his intricate work. Another artistic flair of work captivated the judges making Ms. Angel Chogyomon from the CAS secured the top in poster making. Meanwhile, a contender from CVM also shined as Ms. Ma. Erika Peralta proved her artistic excellence in Painting. In the photography contest, Ms. Krista Mae N. Lino from the CET was awarded with the highest award for her frame-perfect entry.
Meanwhile, under the Literary Arts category, judges honored CEdโs representative Mr. Mary Elisha Bumatay as the winner in Storytelling. In Pagkukuwento, Ms. Teresa Mae Doquigan, also from CEd, moved judges with her delivery of her winning piece while in Spoken Poetry, Mr. CJ Israel Manalo from CBM achieved the highest score. Another contender from CET, Mr. Jomar Gambol, emerged as winner in the Essay Writing. In addition, LSian Ms. Ruth Mae A. Yadao, triumphed as the highest scorer in Pagsusulat ng Sanaysay category.
In the Musical Category, Ms. Jamiel Loraine Mercado from CET electrified the stage with her performance and claimed her title as winner in the Vocal Solo while Ms. Feann Jhen Rosete and Mr. Wilfredo Solis (CEd) amazed the crowd with their powerful duet.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ted B. Villanueva from CBM and Ms. Twinkle M. Guides from CAS were crowned as Mister and Miss TAU 2025, embodying the Universityโs ideals of leadership and service grounded in both passion and tradition.
Proving that SDO remains true to its mission, Ms. Lapitan assured that her office will continue to initiate activities that will help TAU produce exceptionally talented individuals.ย โWe're not preserving culture in amber, we're planting ancestral seeds in tomorrow's soil,โ Ms. Lapitan said
