Senior Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) student Erwin Manansala of Tarlac Agricultural University's College of Business and Management (TAU-CBM) is among this year's Outstanding UNESCO Club Youth Leaders, as announced by the National Coordinating Body of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines (NCBUCP), Inc.

In a recent post, NCBUCP publicly informed that Manansala has been nominated and selected as the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Club for UNESCO Youth Leaders award (college level) after being "chosen as the top candidate by our members in the academic community among 65 applicants who submitted their credentials due to your innovative program in your community."

When asked how he vied for the award, the youth leader revealed that after the organization he led was awarded as one of the Outstanding UNESCO Clubs in the country, he was able to apply for it.

"One of the requirements is to be nominated by any authority outside your club, and Dr. Marianne P. Villaruel nominated me to the NCBUCP Executive Director for the category."

It can be remembered that Manansala is the incumbent president of the Junior Marketing Society (JMS), a TAU-based student organization that was named an Outstanding Club for UNESCO for 2024 College Level - Information and Communication Category in July of this year, for "its commitment to excellence that has been duly recognized based on its programs and projects implemented from [January 2023 to May 2024] in pursuit of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."

Manansala also disclosed that out of more than 250 accredited clubs across the Philippines, 20 youth leaders from different clubs (college level category) became the official nominees and he i's one of them. He believed that he was selected as a result of the initiatives and accomplishments he had carried out while serving as JMS president, as well as the numerous people whose lives he had touched by serving as an inspiration.

Aside from Dr. Villaruel, the Marketing Management major also shares his accomplishments with his mentors, Ms. Melanie Subiaga and Mr. Sonny Santos, for helping him achieve them, and to his adviser, Dr. Jerome D. Soriano, for his unwavering support and willingness to commit all of his resources to help him in achieving all of his goals.

Moreover, he also wants to appreciate all the people who have been instrumental in achieving this feat. "I would like to express my gratitude to all of my dear colleaguesβ€”both officers and non-officersβ€”who have offered me opportunities for growth, insightful guidance, and constructive criticism. In particular, I would like to thank Fernando Panguelo, my Executive Vice President for Internal, who has always supported and encouraged me. Your expertise and readiness to assist were essential to my success," he said.

"I also want to thank my friends and classmates who were there for me as well. To my mom, I'm sure you already know how appreciative I am to have such a caring and understanding mother. And lastly to Dad, even though you unexpectedly left me, I know that you are extremely pleased in heaven with everything I have accomplished."

The awarding ceremony of this year's Outstanding UNESCO Youth Leaders will be held at City State Asturias Hotel-Palawan in Puerto Princesa City on 1 December, coinciding the conduct of 2024 International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) which will host over 500 national delegates and 100 international guests to recognize youth leaders of their contributions and influence in their respective institutions and communities.
