The Eulogio โAmangโ Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) explored Tarlac Agricultural Universityโs (TAU) strategies and practices on international rankings and quality management during a visit at the TAU Agritourism Hostel Function Hall on 17 March .ย
Dr. Jerome D. Soriano, Director of the Quality Assurance (QA) Office, welcomed the EARIST representatives and introduced the TAU academic officials. Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, Dr. Soriano stated that the TAU community is delighted to host EARIST for the benchmarking activity. He emphasized that it was another opportunity to share best practices and expressed hope that these could be implemented at EARIST.
Committed to formalizing a partnership between TAU and EARIST to create more opportunities for their respective stakeholders, TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson expressed that a partnership agreement should be established to deepen their collaboration. โThrough a MOA, we could provide more than just best practices in international rankings; we could also explore collaborative research opportunities,โ Dr. Salunson said.
Dr. Sonny DC. Torres, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (VPASA), emphasized the significance of this milestone. โThis partnership is a testament of commitment to continuous improvement, not only for faculty and students but for a broader academic community.โ Dr. Torres said.
EARIST, based in the City of Manila, is led by Dr. Rogelio T. Mamaradlo, College President. Although Dr. Mamaradlo was unable to join his colleagues for this visit, his message was conveyed by Dr. Eric C. Mendoza, Vice President for Academic Affairs: โThe dedication fostering camaraderie and excellence in higher education is truly commendable. To your efforts, we hope to gain deeper insights into the methodologies and indicators that drive academic performance and excellence. The knowledge we are about to gain helps us define our strategies and strengthen our commitment to delivering quality education and impact academic networks.โ
Additionally, Dr. Mendoza praised TAU for its globally recognized IZN roadmap. โWe hope that you can share with us the experiences you have in global rankings because we would like to be included also,โ Dr. Mendoza commented.
Mr. Julius C. Consul, Administrative Aide VI of TAU-ELIA, highlighted the Universityโs pursuit of global recognition focused on strengthening its academic programs, research initiatives, and international partnerships.ย
In 2024, TAU ranked 110th in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), 801-1000th in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (THE-IR), and 324th spot in the UI GreenMetric Rankings.
Part of sharing of TAUโs best practices in quality management, the QA Office showcased the Universityโs institutional and international/ national program accreditations, as well as its quality systems through an AVP.ย
Meanwhile, Dr. Jay-Ar De Mayo, Director of Business and Auxiliary Services (BAS), explained the main references of the TAU Quality Management System (QMS) to further emphasize the Universityโs mandate to provide a high-quality education system for its community through in-depth academic opportunities and research developments.
Dr. Sheila R. Lingaya, Assistant Director and Chief for International Mobility of TAU-External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA), concluded the benchmarking visit by emphasizing the Universityโs pivotal role and capacity as an academic institution in supporting other higher education institutions (HEIs), such as EARIST, in securing spots in both local and international university rankings. โWe look forward to seeing and reading about EARIST among the top-ranking universities in the Philippines.โ Dr. Lingaya expressed.
In June 2024, two EARIST representativesโMs. Jocelyn R. Moreno, Director of Production Services, and Mr. Ernesto C. Pacheco Jr., TeDPRo Laboratory Technicianโpaid an official visit to Dr. Salunson. The representatives sought insights into TAUโs Food Laboratory Center, Root Crops Research and Training Center (RRTC), Engineered Bamboo Project Facility, and SMART Agriculture Center. Their two-day visit provided them with valuable knowledge about TAUโs business operations and marketing strategies.
