CHED Chair De Vera lauds TAU during its 75th Founding Anniversary

CHED Chairperson J. Prospero De Vera III personally lauded Tarlac Agricultural University as he graced the convocation program of TAU’s 75th Foundation Anniversary last December 18, 2020.

Accompanied by the CHED’s OIC-Deputy Executive Director and the Director of International Affairs, Atty. Lily Freida M. Milla, Chairperson De Vera personally greeted the TAU administrative council who were physically present during the program and the rest of the TAU community who were watching the live streaming of the program via Zoom and Facebook.

Despite the pandemic, TAU celebrated its foundation anniversary with the theme “TAU@75: Celebrating Hallmarks of Tradition, Transition, and Transformation.” Chairperson De Vera delivered his speech focusing on the essence of celebrating traditions and customs as well as the duty of the academic sector to address the inevitable changes in society.

He added that the TAU has now achieved greater heights as it successfully forged its name in the region and even on the global academic map as a result of its internationalization efforts, innovation in research and instruction and community development projects.

Apart from the CHED officials, Senator Joel Villanueva extended his congratulatory and yuletide greeting to the TAU community online. Further, the former TAU Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training, Dr. Tessie E. Navarro, the alumnus and President of TAU-North America Alumni Association, Mr. Glecy Lacadin, and the SSC President, Mr. Pete Matthew Mortilla extended their greetings to the institution’s celebratory moment via pre-recorded video. Also, part of the program was dedicated to commemorating the service and devotion provided by former members of the TAU Board of Regents and the retirees who have served the institution for several decades.

After the convocation program, Chairperson De Vera, President Guillermo, and members of the TAU administrative council explored the university premises particularly the laboratories, training and learning facilities, research and extension projects in and outside the University, and academic buildings which were supported and funded by the CHED in the previous years and at present.

Afterward, President Guillermo invited Chairperson De Vera to visit the 665-hectare TAU Forest Reservation Project at Sitio Calao San Jose, Mayantoc, Tarlac which was developed and preserved by the University as a practical learning area and bamboo production laboratory for the Forestry students. They were convoyed by a group of TAU employees and some members of the Administrative Council. According to President Guillermo, the CHED official positively reacted and was delighted with the improvements and innovations the TAU administration made in the University over the years.

As a result of his visit, Chairperson De Vera encouraged the TAU community to continue pursuing more academic endeavors for the University to be recognized as one of the top 500 universities in Asia. He also expressed his support for TAU’s initiative in submitting the institution’s academic reputation for QS ranking. (RCalpito, PDO)
