Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) has officially inaugurated its Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) Office in a formal ceremony held at the Gilberto O. Teodoro Multipurpose Center, 15 December.ย

The unveiling of the office marker signifies a strategic leap towards strengthening the Universityโ€™s innovation ecosystem, ensuring that research and technological outputs are systematically protected, managed, and commercialized for greater societal impact.ย

The ceremony, presided over by University President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, featured key presentations outlining the office's foundation. Dr. Maria Elena T. Caguioa, Director of the Department of Research and Development (DRD), provided the rationale and background, emphasizing the growing need for a structured IP framework while Dr. Jay-ar A. de Mayo and project members subsequently presented the IPTBM's framework and significant accomplishments, detailing the pathway from research disclosure to potential market entry.

A core segment of the event was the message of commitment delivered by a consortium of vital partners. Key officials, including Dir. Reynaldo V. Ebora of DOST-PCAARD, Dir. Noel A. Catibog of TIPD-PCAARD, and Dr. Pablo J. Rafael, Jr., Program Leader of RAISE Control Luzon, expressed their support. They were joined by Dir. Walter L. Pacunana, Project Leader of RAISE-CL Project 1, Ms. Karen Y. Danez of PSTD DOST-Tarlac, and Ms. Aillen Uy-Chan, President of PCCI-Tarlac as represented by Mr. Maiko Pascual, Secretary of PCCI-Tarlac, highlighting the collaborative network essential for the office's success.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Salunson emphasized that a robust IPTBM system is essential for effectively scaling technologies developed at the University, further underscoring that this would bring significant benefits to Central Luzon and the entire nation, while also ensuring that TAU and its innovators are properly recognized and rewarded for their contributions.

โ€œAs an agricultural university, our innovations are vital for food security, climate resilience, and rural prosperity,โ€ the TAU President shared.ย

The creation of the IPTBM Office is a transformative step for TAU, centralizing efforts to safeguard intellectual property like patents, copyrights, and trademarks. It introduces professional Technology Business Management practices aimed at licensing innovations, fostering spin-off enterprises, and engaging with industry.ย

Furthermore, this initiative empowers researchers, faculty, and students, ensuring their inventions contribute to regional agricultural development, economic growth, and national progress while generating potential revenue for further research.

Following the unveiling, the celebration continued with the ribbon-cutting of the Technology Exhibit and Agri-Trade Fair, showcasing the very innovations the new office aims to nurture. This dual event reinforces TAUโ€™s holistic approach during its 80th Founding Anniversary Celebration, bridging formal institutional strategy with public engagement to demonstrate how protected ideas lead to practical solutions and community advancement.
