Focused on environmental action and civic engagement, the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), through the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in collaboration with the External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA) office, conduct the β€œSDG Congress: Youth in Action” held at the TAU grounds on 13 November.

Sustainability advocates from TAU’s six colleges who are currently enrolled in the General Education (GEED) 13 Building Ecoliteracy in the 21st Century, students leaders, and guests from Birbira National High School (BNHS), gather at the TAU - Student and Alumni Center Amphitheater for a series of lectures followed by the Climate FRESK training at the CAS building, facilitated by Engr. Joseph M. Rafael, a certified Climate FRESK trainer and Bostik Asia-Pacific operational excellence manager. The activity introduces students to climate science and empowers them to analyze environmental issues through collaborative problem-solving.

Meanwhile, an eco-bazaar along TAU Boulevard runs simultaneously with student groups who manage booths that are themed around the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), showcasing eco-friendly products and displays.

The afternoon session resumes with a lecture on the Philippine Extended Producer’s Responsibility Act of 2022, delivered by Engr. Lourdes Nepomuceno of Bostik Philippines and highlights the responsibilities of companies in minimizing waste generation and strengthening recycling systems.Β

Engr. Donabel Cabrera, Bostik’s health, safety, and environment manager, also presents the company’s corporate social responsibility programs, followed by a lecture on integrating ecological literacy into civic engagement, led by Mr. Marion Joseph Villar of The Asia Foundation.

In addition, Ms. Gerrie Anne S. Unto of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and a former faculty member of TAU discusses youth participation in environmental policy and decision-making, emphasizing how young leaders shape governance frameworks for sustainability.

Open forums follow each talk, giving students a chance to engage directly with experts and raise policy-related questions.
