During the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on 3 December, multiple sites across the campus participate in a coordinated worst-case scenario exercise. The University Disaster Risk Reduction Management (UDRRM) team emphasizes that while the University always plans for an effective response, today's drill specifically prepares for a catastrophic event that could overwhelm local capacities, deplete resources, and necessitate external aid from other agencies.
The exercise also serves to identify critical gaps in the Universityโs earthquake response protocols, providing essential insights for future improvements. Observations from todayโs drill will directly affect the development of a strengthened contingency plan. This proactive preparation is part of broader efforts to ready the campus for โThe Big One,โ given Tarlacโs vulnerability, and follows a series of recent seismic events recorded across the Philippines.
